NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) – A business that committed to bring over 400 jobs to Region 8 but didn't, now must pay the Newport Economic Development Commission for not coming through.
According to the Newport Economic Development Commission (NEDC), America's Choice Products LLC, committed to bring 425 full-time jobs to Jackson County. In December 2008, the company announced they were leaving the area, and never produced the jobs.
America's Choice Product LLC (ACP) moved their operation from Newport to Pocahontas in late 2008, causing 85 people to lose their jobs in Jackson County.
ACP must pay NEDC $240,000 for incentives the commission paid to the company to create the jobs. NEDC made payments in the amount of $80,000 to ACP each year they were located in Jackson County. ACP must also pay the court costs and attorney's fees for NEDC.
