Causey gets endorsement from labor group

HOT SPRINGS, AR (AP) - A labor group has endorsed Chad Causey, a Democrat, in the race for the 1st District congressional seat that is being vacated by Rep. Marion Berry.

Members of the Arkansas AFL-CIO heard Friday from candidates for the position during their convention at Hot Springs and announced their endorsement afterward.  Causey is the former chief of staff for Berry, who announced in January that he would not run for re-election.

Other Democrats seeking their party's nomination to the post include state Sens. Steve Bryles and Tim Wooldridge, state Rep. David Cook, Terry Green and Ben Ponder. Republicans seeking the GOP nomination include Rick Crawford and Princella Smith.

The Arkansas AFL-CIO's executive board had earlier endorsed Democratic Lt. Gov. Bill Halter as a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Blanche Lincoln, also a Democrat, and Democratic state Sen. Joyce Elliot for the 2nd District congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Vic Snyder, a Democrat.
