ASU’s du Preez tied for third place at UALR/First Tee

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KAIT) – Tied for third place in the individual standings, Lloyd du Preez shot a two-round 141 to lead the Arkansas State men's golf team during the opening day of play at the UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic on Monday at the Chenal Country Club.

du Preez, who completed the last three tournaments among the top-15 finishers, carded a 71 and a 70 for the first two rounds, respectively, to finish the day three-under par.

The Red Wolves are tied for 14th place among the 18-team field that features 11 teams ranked in the top-100 nationally in's latest rankings. ASU posted a 303 for the opening round and then cut one stroke off that total during the second 18 holes to finish the day with a combined 605. ASU is within a single-digit stroke margin of 10th place Rice, while Missouri is in first place with a 572.

Following du Preez for ASU, Wessel Zweigers is tied for 45th place with a 151, Kell Shenep tied for 84th with a 157 and Tyler Thompson and Chris Pledger tied for 86th place with a158 each.

The 54-hole tournament will conclude today with the final round starting at 8:00 a.m.
