SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A Sharp County woman is in jail after police say she gave her 3-month old baby Valium.

According to the Sharp County Sheriff's Department, police were called to the Motor Central Motel in reference to a woman on probation that hadn't been heard from.

When police arrived at the motel, they found Shannon Asher and her 3-month old son inside a room. Asher was on probation, and officers searched the room and found illegal drugs.

Police also noticed the baby was lethargic, and called in D.H.S. to check on the child. Police say the baby tested positive for Valium.

Asher told investigators she gave her 3-month old son small pieces of Valium on two separate occasions, because the child was suffering from severe colic.

Asher has been charged with introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person, and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Police report the child had recovered and is doing well.
