Vanderbilt physicists to open virtual control room connected to Swiss accelerator

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Physicists at Vanderbilt University will open a virtual control room Tuesday allowing them to participate in the world's largest particle accelerator without leaving campus.

They will be able to join experiments that will be conducted on the $9 billion Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland.

Six Vanderbilt physics professors and 14 students will be using the center to participate in this major, interdisciplinary project.

The experiments will focus on topics including the origin of mass and the mysterious dark matter that affects the shapes of galaxies that scientists haven't been able to detect directly.
