Polk County woman charged in boyfriend's death

BOLIVAR, Mo. (AP) - A Flemington woman has been charged in the death of her boyfriend, who she had claimed committed suicide.

Polk County authorities said Tuesday that Tracy Steele was charged in the death of David Ilo. He was found dead March 25 of a gunshot wound at his home in rural Polk County.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says in a news release that Steele had told authorities that Ilo shot himself.

But investigators said evidence at the scene didn't support that story, and Steele later said she and Ilo were fighting over a gun when it went off.

The statement said Steele did not have injuries that would have supported her claim that she was assaulted.

She is being held in Polk County Jail on $250,000 bond.
