Officials launch Fair Housing Month

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Officials in St. Louis are marking April as Fair Housing Month.

The federal Fair Housing Act was signed on April 11, 1968, prohibiting discrimination in the sale, rental or financing of housing.

A Fair Housing Month ceremony is scheduled Wednesday afternoon at the Old Courthouse in St. Louis, with Mayor Francis Slay and U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan taking part.

They were being joined by John Trasvina, assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
