JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - State officials are investigating the discovery of about 30 asbestos-covered pipes in a creek in eastern Missouri's Jefferson County.
The Department of Natural Resources says the county health department reported Tuesday that workers found the pipes in Planton Creek in DeSoto, south of St. Louis.
The DNR says the pipes and other debris appears to have been dumped in the creek illegally. The agency is trying to determine who owns the property where the pipes were found.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says exposure to asbestos can increase the risk of lung disease.
