Pit bull ordinance in Poplar Bluff to go into effect Thursday

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) – Pit bull owners in Poplar Bluff have one more day to register their dogs, or run the risk of losing them.

The town of Poplar Bluff passed an ordinance that requires all pit bulls to be micro-chipped and registered with the city.

Animal control officers tell Region 8 News at any pit bull that isn't registered by the end of Thursday can be seized by the city.

Poplar Bluff is trying to phase out the pit bull breed in their city.

From now on, when a pit bull dies, the owner will not be able to replace the dog with another pit bull breed.
