Christine Giles to join ASU Soccer Team

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The Arkansas State women's soccer program has announced that Christine Giles has signed a national letter of intent to join the Red Wolves squad for the 2010 season.

Giles comes to Arkansas State after captaining the Ida Baker soccer team in Cape Coral, Florida to a 27-1 season, their best season in school history, while scoring 34 of her 80 career goals during her senior campaign. She also had 100 assists during her high school career and was named team Most Valuable Player twice while earning first team All-Conference honors and was the 2010 News-Press Player of the Year.

A midfield/forward, Giles was also named the Female Athlete of the Week and named to the SWFLA All-Area second team and was a member of the ODP State Pool Selection during 2007.

She helped her team reach the state final four playing with the Island Coast Soccer Alliance and earned a top five state ranking under club coach Jamie Byers. She was also the leading scorer on her club team.

Head coach Tafadzwa Ziyenge had the following to say about his first signee at Arkansas State. "Christine is a proven goal scorer who is also able to operate in both the forward and midfield roles. She comes to us from a great club and recently led her high school team to their best ever season. I look forward to her giving us increased goal production."
