Jefferson City man shot in tussle with police

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Jefferson City police officer has shot a suspect after he managed to wrest control of another officer's firearm. Police said in a news release that the 25-year-old suspect has been taken to a Columbia hospital.

His name wasn't released, and his condition wasn't immediately known. It all started around 6:20 a.m. Saturday when dispatchers received a 911 call about a disturbance. When officers arrived, the suspect was fighting with the female caller and refused to leave.

The release says the suspect was shot twice after gaining control of the firearm of one of the officers in a "violent struggle." Both officers will be placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. Neither officer nor the female caller suffered significant injuries.
