NEWPORT, Ark. (AP) - Jackson County authorities have recovered a body from the Cache River near Grubbs.
Sheriff David Lucas said Monday the sheriff's department received a call about 2:25 p.m. Friday of a possible body in the main channel of the river.
Lucas, deputy Charles Vaughn and chief investigator David Platt were taken to the site by boat by landowners, and the body was pulled out of the water a short time later.
The body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab medical examiner's office for an autopsy. Lucas says the medical examiner's office is expected to help establish the victim's identity.
Platt says officers couldn't tell how long the victim had been dead or whether the death was accidental or otherwise.
