WBC Softball sweeps Park

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.(KAIT) - The Lady Eagles softball team earned two big conference wins over Park University Friday at Walnut Ridge. The Williams Baptist College squad took the first game 5-0 and then rolled to a 12-2 win, shortened to five innings by the mercy rule, in the nightcap.

Park had been getting votes in NAIA top-25 polling, but Williams freshman Karisa Hendrix continued her impressive debut season with a two-hit gem in the first contest. She had five strikeouts and only two walks in the shutout, going the full seven innings.

Hendrix started the second game, as well, but Kim Emmons came in as a reliever with two outs in the first and earned the win. Emmons scattered five hits over 4 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. She had two strikeouts and no walks.

Offensively, Ashley Boyles had a great afternoon, going 4-for-6 with a home run and a triple over the two games. She had two RBIs and scored three runs. Jillian Graham went 6-for-8 with five RBIs, two doubles, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Teighlor Melton was also 4-for-6, scoring two runs. Marissa Hoehn went 3-for-6 with a double, two stolen bases, an RBI and three runs scored. Felicia Woodard went 2-for-3 in the second game with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

The Lady Eagles are 21-8 overall and 5-3 in the American Midwest Conference. They host conference powerhouse Columbia for a pair of games Wednesday, starting at 2:00 p.m. They also have a home doubleheader against Harris-Stowe Monday at 2:00 p.m., and a makeup date Tuesday against Hannibal-LaGrange. That doubleheader also starts at 2:00 p.m. at WBC.
