SEARCY, Ark. (KAIT) – Harding University freshman Paul Anzalone hit the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Bisons a 7-6 victory over Lyon in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday at Jerry Moore Field. Lyon won the opener 9-5.
Lyon (21-11) scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh of game two to take a 6-5 lead. Freshman Erin McCarver's pinch-hit single tied the game before Anzalone, also a pinch-hitter, scored Trent Kinnear with a sacrifice fly to right.
Jason Nappi was 2-for-2 with a run scored and four RBI, three coming on a bases-loaded double in Harding's four-run fourth inning. Chase Presley and Kinnear also had two hits each.
Senior Donny Stephens (1-1) picked up his first win of the season with four innings of relief for the Bisons. He allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out one. Lucas Waddell started for Harding and allowed two unearned runs in three innings. He has pitched 21 1/3 innings at home this season without allowing an earned run.
Lyon had nine hits in the game, three from senior Zach Wallace. Reliever Cody Harper (2-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Harding (20-19) led 2-0 after four innings in game one, but Lyon scored three runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Jason Nappi was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI and hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season. Kinnear also had two hits.
Patrick Nappi (2-3) allowed three runs (one earned) in one inning of relief and was saddled with the loss. Trent Weeks (1-0) made his first start of the season for Lyon and picked up the win, allowing only one earned run in six innings.
Harding is back in action Saturday with a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
