Liberty man sentenced after hitting 4 people

LIBERTY, MO (AP) - A 23-year-old Liberty man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for driving into four people during a fight, killing one.

The Kansas City Star reports that Jack A. Martin was sentenced Thursday for vehicular manslaughter in the Sept. 6, 2009, death of 25-year-old Channing S. May of Kansas City.

Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd says several people were fighting when Martin got into his vehicle and ran into four people standing on the road. He then fled the scene.

May died at the scene and two others were injured.

Zahnd says accident reconstruction experts determined that Martin's Jeep was traveling about 49 mph.
