ASU Men's Golf in 12th place entering final round of 14th Red Wolf Classic

The Arkansas State men's golf team shot a two-round 592 at RidgePointe Country Club to finish the opening day of the 14th annual Red Wolf Classic in 12th place among 18 teams.

The Red Wolves shot a 307 for the two-day tournament's opening round, but cut 22 strokes off that total in the second round to climb up to 12th place in the standings.  Six of ASU's seven competing players improved their score in the second round, including Lloyd du Preez with a 69 that was the team's best score for the second 18 holes.

Kell Shenep, competing as an individual, posted ASU's best score of the day at 140, which included a first-round 66 that was the second lowest round of the day among all players.  Shenep is in sixth place to lead the Red Wolves' in the individual standings.

du Preez' second-round 69 helped push him up into a tie for 24th place with a combined 145.  Chris Pledger is tied for 38th place with a 147, Warren Hood tied for 43rd place with a 148, Tyler Thompson tied for 71st place with a 152 and Sawyer Radler tied for 84th place with a 155.

The tournament's final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.
