Woman's body found in Ft. Smith residence

FORT SMITH, AR (AP) - Fort Smith police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found at a residence.

Officers responding to a call about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday found the woman on a bathroom floor with puncture wounds and a large amount of blood nearby.

Police believe the victim is 54-year-old Rita Collins, whose co-workers requested a welfare check when she didn't show up for work. Collins' body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for forensic examination.

Detectives are investigating her death as a homicide and are asking anyone with information to contact the Fort Smith Police Department.
