Fayetteville (KAIT) - Jonesboro's Katie Stripling isn't the only Region 8 Razorback that's winning honors in track and field.
Newport's Caleb Cross won the SEC Freshman of the Week honors. He competed in the 110-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay at the John McDonnell Invitational this past weekend. In the 110-meter hurdles, he clocked a prelim time of 14.03 and a final time of 14.21. His prelim time of 14.03 is a personal best, ranks No. 21 in the NCAA (No. 1 among freshmen) and No. 4 in the SEC (No. 1 among freshmen).
He also ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay with a 47.31 split, Arkansas' fastest of the day. The quartet finished second with a season-best time of 3:10.71. The time ranks No. 9 in the SEC.
"Caleb Cross is running well for us right now," head coach Chris Bucknam said. "He's so valuable to us in the hurdle events but is also proving to be a key component to our 4x400-meter relay. Our staff is happy with the way he is transitioning to and progressing in the collegiate hurdles."
