Friday last day to apply for Missouri parks youth jobs

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) - Friday is the last day to apply for paid youth summer jobs in Missouri State Parks.

The State Parks Youth Corps will offer 1,000 minimum wage jobs to people ages 17 through 24. Those hired will help build trails, lead tours and do landscaping and maintenance.

Applications were being accepted at through Friday.

Gov. Jay Nixon announced the program during his State of the State speech in January, calling it a a chance to get young people interested in Missouri parks.

Nixon's office says more than 3,500 people have already applied. Park staff and members of the state's Workforce Investment Boards will make the employment decisions.

The jobs will be paid for with federal money.
