Murder defendant's dad says diary accuses husband

MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - The father of a woman accused of fatally smothering her two babies last year says he found her journal in which she wrote that her husband killed the babies.

Prosecutors say 22-year-old Dawn Wines has confessed to smothering 18-month-old Louis Wines in August 2009 and 6-month-old Annabelle Wines just 10 weeks later.

Her father, Donald Evans, has provided copies of several journal entries to the Banner-News newspaper at Magnolia. The Banner-News immediately turned the documents over to the Columbia County sheriff's office. Detective Leroy Martin declined to comment because the journal entries have not yet been authenticated.

Dawn Wines' husband, Josh Wines, flatly denies any involvement in the deaths of his children, or in a cover-up of their murders, and expressed doubt that the journal found by Evans is factual.
