Jonesboro (ASU) – Arkansas State head women's bowling coach Justin Kostick announced Monday that Ashley Rucker (Bartlesville, Okla.) and Kelsey Smith (Grand Blanc, Mich.) have both signed a National Letter of Intent to bowl with the Red Wolves for the 2010-11 season.
Rucker joins the ASU squad after serving as the Wesleyan Christian School team captain for four years. She was named the conference player of the year in 2009 and received the 2010 Rising Star Award. She finished 12th in the 2009 Teen Master's and holds the Bartlesville city record for female high series. The 5-8 high school standout was the 2009 Grand Prix champion and finished runner-up in the 2010 Grand Prix and Pepsi State tournaments.
Rucker also served as her high school mascot for three years and on the student council for four years, while maintaining honor roll accolades all four years. She is the daughter of Loren and Deanna Rucker.
Smith comes to Jonesboro from Grand Blanc High School, averaging 203 this season. As a junior, she was named first team All-Big Nine, Most Improved for GBHS Bowling and Big Nine All-Academic. Smith has served as the team captain during her senior campaign, earning all-state and all-academic honors while leading her team to Region 3 and KLAA conference tournament championships in 2010. She was named KLAA All-Conference, KLAA highest conference average (203), MVP of her high school team and the James F. "Sam" Hamilton Memorial Cup Award winner.
Smith also played softball, was selected to the honor roll and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Kevin and Renee' Smith.
