ASU Women's Golf in 9th place after 1st Round

Muscle Shoals, AL (ASU) – The Arkansas State women's golf team shot a first-round 309 on Monday at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, ending the three-round tournament's opening day of competition in ninth place.

The Red Wolves trail eighth-place Troy by just one stroke and are within nine strokes of second-place Florida International and Middle Tennessee.  Denver, ranked No. 18 in the nation, leads the 11-team field after posting a 281.

ASU has two players currently ranked among the top-25 leaders, including Cassie Huffer in a tie for 13th place and Jennifer Welch tied for 23rd.  Huffer posted an opening-round 75, while Welch carded a 77.

Following Huffer and Welch, Anna Carling is tied for 32nd place with a 78, Jennifer Loiacano tied for 42nd with a 79 and Adrian Sportsman tied for 50th with an 82.

The second round is set to begin Tuesday at 7:30 a.m., while the third and final round will be played Wednesday.
