Walnut Ridge, AR (WBC) - The NAIA has bestowed its national Pitcher of the Week honors upon Karisa Hendrix of Williams Baptist College. The freshman ace won the award Tuesday for going 6-0 last week, including a no-hitter against Stephens College.
Hendrix was one unearned run away from throwing 41 scoreless innings in six American Midwest Conference victories last week. The freshman threw five complete games, recording 47 strikeouts and issuing only four bases on balls.
During her rookie campaign, the Cherokee Village, Ark., native has limited opponents to just a .143 batting average and is only giving up 4.63 hits per seven innings played.
"This is not only a tremendous honor for Karisa, but for our team and all of Williams Baptist College," said WBC head coach Eric Newell. "She's earned every bit of it. She's a workhorse. Karisa works nonstop, often on her own, and she is always out there trying to make herself a better player."
In the process of winning the national honor, Hendrix was also named the AMC Pitcher of the Week for the third time in four weeks. For the season, she is 15-4 with one save, and she has a 1.27 ERA
