SEARCY, Ark. - Harding University junior Jason Nappi was named Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week on Tuesday. He became the first Bison to earn the award since Justin Cone in 2004.
Nappi, Harding's first baseman, went 12-for-21 with five doubles, 10 runs scored and 11 RBI in the Bisons' four games during the week. In Harding's record-setting, 50-run outburst at Arkansas-Monticello this past weekend, the junior from Birmingham, Ala., drove in at least three runs and plated at least two in each of the three games. Along with his power surge, Nappi also drew a walk and stole a pair of bases.
For the season, Nappi ranks sixth in the GSC with a .417 batting average. He leads Harding in runs (51), hits (60), home runs (8), RBI (55) and walks (30).
Harding concludes its 2010 regular season this weekend with a three-game series against Arkansas Tech. The teams meet Saturday for a noon doubleheader. The final game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
