NWS says storm damage not the result of tornado

MARMADUKE, Ark. (AP) - Greene County officials say the National Weather Service has confirmed that storm damage in Marmaduke earlier this month was not the result of a tornado.

Office of Emergency Services/911 coordinator Shelly Hood said Thursday that some residents reported seeing rotation during a storm that moved through the city April 7th.

But Hood says the weather service told her last week that straight-line winds gusting up to 85 mph damaged mobile homes at Smoots Mobile Home Sales Inc. on U.S. Highway 49.

Hood says the city is ineligible for state and federal aid because the dollar amount of damages in the county is below the minimum thresholds of about $81,370 for state assistance and $3.5 million for federal assistance.
