CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A new judge has been selected to take over the trial of the Cleveland Strangler.

Judge Dick Ambrose will now preside over the high-profile trial of suspected serial killer Anthony Sowell.

This, after the Acting Chief Justice on the Ohio Supreme Court removed Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold from hearing the case on Thursday.

Defense attorneys claimed Judge Shirley Strickland Saffold could not be fair about the case due to various conflicts. They pointed out the Judge is suing the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The paper says comments about the case were traced to her e-mail account.

Defense attorneys went to the state Supreme Court after Judge Saffold refused to recuse herself from the case.

The bodies of eleven women were found in and around accused serial killer Anthony Sowell's Imperial Avenue property last November. He faces the death penalty.
