Ark. district declares all jobs at school vacant

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Teachers at Cloverdale Middle School in Little Rock must reapply for their jobs. All teaching jobs have been declared by the Little Rock School District to be vacant and open to applicants.

The school is to become Cloverdale Aerospace Technology Charter Middle School in the fall. District officials are taking applications for at least 50 jobs at the school next fall. Current Cloverdale employees can apply for jobs at the campus.

But the school's charter, or contract, with the state Education Department, says no more than 49 percent of the existing staff can be rehired. Cloverdale has failed to meet minimum achievement standards on state exams for at least seven years.
