NWS: No tornadoes in Region 8 Friday or Saturday

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The National Weather Service says the damage from Friday & Saturday's severe weather was not caused by a tornado.

According to the National Weather Service, the damage that occurred Friday evening was the result of straight line winds.

One thunderstorm damaged power lines, trees, and small sheds near Alicia. A lot of the damage was reported around State Highways 230, 91, and 228 between Alicia and Sedgwick.

The NWS reports winds were estimated around 75-85 miles per hour.

Straight line winds were also the ruling of the NWS that caused damage to power lines and trees in the Walnut Ridge area. Police report a shop building and large tractor barn were destroyed by winds estimated around 75-85 miles per hour.

On Saturday there were reports of a tornado that may have touched down in Manila, but the National Weather Service said that's not the case.

NWS says trees were downed on the south end of the Big Lake Wildlife Management Area and winds were estimated around 60 miles per hour.
