SEARCY, Ark. – Harding freshman Lucas Waddell was named Gulf South Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. It was his second weekly conference award this season, making only the second Harding pitcher to earn multiple GSC Pitcher of the Week awards in one season.
Waddell, a native of Ladner, British Columbia, pitched a seven-inning shutout in Harding's final game of the season, a 5-0 victory over Arkansas Tech on Sunday. The right-hander allowed only four hits and no walks and struck out two, throwing 55 of his 75 pitches for strikes. It was his third shutout of the season, making him only the third Harding pitcher on record with three or more shutouts in a season.
Justin Phillips is the only other Harding pitcher to earn GSC Pitcher of the Week multiple times in a season. He won the award three times in 2007.
Waddell finished the season with a team-best 6-1 record and had a 3.21 ERA. His control was outstanding this season. In 42 innings pitched, he allowed only six walks and five extra-base hits and threw only one wild pitch.
