2 Razorbacks arrested on drug-possession charges

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - University of Arkansas police say two members of the defensive backfield on the Razorbacks football team have been arrested on drug-possession charges.

Reports from the UA Police Department say 19-year-old David D. Lopez and 20-year-old Hunter D. Miller were arrested about 6:20 p.m. Monday by an officer after he saw them reclining in the seats of a vehicle parked on the campus, checked on them, smelled marijuana smoke and saw a plastic bag of "green leafy substance" in plain sight.

The two were booked into the Washington County Jail shortly after 8 p.m. on charges of possession of a controlled substance, according to Kelly Cantrell, public information officer for the sheriff's office. She said both were released later that evening on $660 bonds.

Zack Higbee, a spokesman for the university's athletic program, said coach Bobby Petrino was "aware of it and is handling it."

The two are listed on the Razorbacks' roster as defensive backs. Higbee said Lopez' name appears on the roster as David Lopez.
