Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - Residents in Region 8 are cleaning up after a dangerous round of severe weather moved through Friday night into Saturday morning.
In the northeast part of the state, Stone County reported that buildings and homes were damaged from a strong thunderstorm. They lost power after the storm knocked down power lines and tree limbs. They also had trees uprooted from the ground and a barn had been destroyed by the strong winds.
The community of Shoffner in Jackson County reported cotton trailers across the roads and structure damage to buildings and homes. The sheriff's department said they believed a tornado came through the area because of the extensive damage that was being reported. Also in Jackson County, the police department is trying to find the origins of debris on the ground in Newport. They believe there is damage to a building structure.
There were reports of trees and power lines down on Harmony Road in Pocahontas. In Poinsett County there are reports of minor tree damage on Pumpkin Center Road in Weiner. Buildings at the Craighead Farmer's Co-op in the southern part of Craighead County are also damaged.
Elsewhere in the state a tornado killed one person and injured at least twenty-five in Van Buren County. In White County, police confirmed a tornado on the east side of Beebe. The strong winds from that storm also damaged buildings in that town.
