JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 4:00am for much of the Mid-South. A number of tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings have also been issued. No damage or injuries have been reported as of 8:45pm Saturday.
The greatest risk for severe weather is in eastern Arkansas and western Tennessee and Mississippi. The Storm Prediction Center has this area under a "high" risk of severe weather. The SPC says the storms that form have the potential to create long track tornadoes through eastern Arkansas northward into the Missouri boot heel.
In addition to the tornado threat, heavy rains could cause flash flooding through the weekend. Parts of Region 8 already have over seven inches of rain since Friday. Remember, do not drive into areas where water covers the roadway. It only takes a few inches of fast moving water to push a vehicle off the roadway.
