Walnut Ridge, AR (KAIT) - The In one of the most exciting games of the season, No. 2 seeded Williams Baptist College defeated No. 7 seeded Park University, 7-6 in nine innings to advance to the semifinal round of the 2010 American Midwest Conference Tournament.
The Eagles will now face No. 3 seeded McKendree University this Tuesday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
Park ends its season with a 24-16 record, while WBC improves to 31-10 on the year.
Both teams pounded the ball early, with the Eagles jumping on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning.
The Pirates answered with three runs of their own in the top of the second inning, but Williams Baptist got three more of their own in the bottom of the second.
Catcher Chelsea Sanders put the Eagles up, 6-3 in the bottom of the third inning with a two run home run off of Brittany Johnson.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Park tied up the game with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning.
Then Brittany Johnson shut down the Eagles in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings giving up no runs.
But in the bottom of the ninth inning, designated player Tricia Driver knocked home Jillian Graham and the Eagles won the thrilling game.
Park got eight hits on the day, with two coming from Mandi Dennis and two coming from Jenn Tanno.
Mallory Jansen and Emily Calder both knocked in two runs apiece and Johnson struck out three batters on the day.
