Eastern Missouri man drowns in Meramec River

STEELEVILLE, MO (AP) - A 58-year-old eastern Missouri man has drowned after a riverbank gave way when he was trying to park his vehicle.

The Missouri State Water Patrol said in a news release Sunday that Rodney Caudill of Steelville was trying to park his vehicle close to the Meramec River on Saturday.

The patrol said the bank gave way, sending the vehicle into the river. The vehicle then flipped over, holding the victim under water for about 20 minutes. The patrol said neighbors pulled him out.
