Williams Baptist Softball battles McKendree Tuesday

Walnut Ridge, Ark. - It took a couple of extra innings, but the Williams Baptist College softball team has punched its ticket to the second round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament. Tricia Driver's ninth inning single brought home the winning run, and Williams defeated Park, 7-6, to advance to the next round of the tourney.

A big crowd was on hand to watch the Lady Eagles, co-champions of the AMC, host their first ever home games in a conference tournament. Williams won the best-of-three series, two games to one, after splitting a doubleheader on Friday.

Park University won the first game Friday, 2-0. The Lady Eagles bounced back to take the second game with a 2-1 win. Karisa Hendrix took the loss in the first game, while Kim Emmons won game two.

Chelsea Sanders had a big day for Williams Saturday, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles. Emmons earned the win in relief, hurling the final four innings.

Next up for Williams is McKendree. The Bearcats are the third seed in the tournament, while WBC is seeded second. The second round series is scheduled to start Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the WBC Softball Field.
