WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - Two close loses to McKendree have brought an end to the American Midwest Conference Tournament for the WBC softball team. The Bearcats downed Williams 4-3 and 1-0 Tuesday to win the best-of-three series and advance to the tournament championship.
The loss ends a remarkable season for Williams, which rolled to a 32-12 mark and was co-champion of the AMC. Williams hosted two rounds of the tournament, its first time ever to host a softball post-season game, and the Lady Eagles defeated Park in the first round, two games to one.
WBC Softball Field had a true tournament atmosphere Tuesday, as tailgaters lined the outfield fence, complete with barbeque grills. A large crowd was on hand all around the field on what turned out to be a perfect afternoon for a ball game.
McKendree now advances to Friday's championship series against either Columbia or William Woods, who were playing Tuesday afternoon in Columbia, Mo.
