Obama touts support for Lincoln in radio ad

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - President Barack Obama is urging Arkansas voters to support Sen. Blanche Lincoln as she faces a tough challenge in this month's Democratic primary.

Lincoln's campaign on Tuesday released a new radio advertisement featuring the president. In the ad, Obama touts Lincoln's accomplishments on health care and on financial regulatory reforms.

Lincoln is being challenged by Lt. Gov. Bill Halter in the May 18 primary.

The ad comes after Lincoln has tried in her re-election bid to highlight her independence from the national Democratic Party and the Obama administration on issues such as health care. Obama lost the state's six electoral votes in the 2008 election and has low approval numbers in the state.
