FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A former Elkins police officer has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of unauthorized release of the criminal history of a Springdale man.
Former Cpl. John Brown was sentenced to 42 months of supervised probation as part of a plea deal in which misdemeanor charges of terroristic threatening and harassing communications were dropped. Brown also will lose his law enforcement certification.
Brown admitted he looked up the criminal history of a man who lived in a home where his estranged wife was allowing their children to stay - then telling his wife about it.
Brown was placed on paid leave when he was arrested March 25. He was fired April 19.
