Retiring Mizzou track coach McGuire honored

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Retiring Missouri track and field coach Rick McGuire can add two new awards from the school's Hollywood-like gala to his career achievements.

McGuire was recognized as Missouri's coach of the year and won the inaugural Mizzou Legacy Award at the year-end awards show. Monday night's event - complete with red carpet - honored athletic and classroom performance as well as community service.

All-American gymnast Sarah Shire won female athlete of the year for the second time. Shire also won a leadership prize that comes with a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship.

Record-setting wide receiver Danario Alexander was named male athlete of the year after leading the NCAA in receiving yards.
