LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Legislators who left the capitol last week without passing a state budget are beginning to regroup in anticipation of a special session.
Senator Shane Broadway of Benton, one of relatively few veterans legislators, says he anticipates the governor will call a special session for budget issues in early May. He says that would allow state agencies to meet their budget deadlines.
Governor Mike Huckabee is responsible for the date and agenda of any special session. His spokesman, Jim Harris, says the governor is still working on details.
The 94-day regular session ended at midnight Wednesday without a budget for the two-year period that begins July 1.
The session ended amid a dispute between Senate leaders and a group of House conservatives.
