Region 8 woman charged with manslaughter for giving alcohol to 17-year-old

BATESVILLE, Ark. (AP) - A 28-year-old woman injured in the crash of a car that killed the vehicle's driver and another passenger faces a manslaughter charge that accuses her of providing alcohol to the 17-year-old driver.

Independence County Sheriff Alan Cockrill said Virginia Corter was charged and arrested Thursday because an investigation showed that alcohol was a factor in an April 4 crash that killed driver Cody Johnson of Oil Trough and 20-year-old passenger Jeffery Zimmer of Little Rock.

Corter and another passenger, 18-year-old Alysha Sullins of Sulphur Rock, were hospitalized for treatment of their injuries.
