OSCEOLA, Ark. -- Mississippi County sheriff's deputies are investigating a body found in the Mississippi River near Osceola. A report from Sheriff Leroy Meadows said deputies were called to the Sans Souci Landing Saturday morning.
Reports indicate that a worker on a towboat pulling two barges upstream on the river noticed what appeared to be a body between the two barges. The body, which is believed to be that of a male, has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for possible identification and cause of death.
Sheriff's Captain Ed Guthrie said the body could have been dragged upstream from anywhere between New Orleans and Osceola, and might not be from Arkansas at all.
