ASU's Pace named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) - Arkansas State senior Cody Pace has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI second team, released Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Pace, an outfielder from Jonesboro, is one of just 27 players named to the teams, which are made up of student-athletes from Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi and New Mexico.

"We are extremely pleased and excited about Cody receiving a top academic honor as a student-athlete from CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine," said ASU Head Coach Tommy Raffo. "Cody has worked diligently in the classroom throughout his career at ASU and has deservingly been recognized for his efforts."

An Engineering major at ASU, Pace holds a 3.67 grade point average and is currently batting a career-high .389 with six doubles, all of which were against Sun Belt Conference opponents. As a junior, he put together a 20-game hit streak, which is even more remarkable when noted that all 20 hits were singles. To make his mark on the 2010 season, Pace drove in the winning run in the eighth inning of ASU's 6-4 victory over No. 18 Western Kentucky April 3 with a two-out, two-run single.

To be nominated for Academic All-Region honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a cumulative 3.3 GPA and be at least a sophomore both academically and in athletic eligibility. Pace was one of just five players chosen from the Sun Belt Conference.
