Missouri transportation to fix 350 miles of minor roads

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (AP) - The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve almost 350 miles of minor roads this year.

The first project began Monday in Concordia, about 50 miles east of Kansas City.

MoDOT says Missouri has more than 20,000 miles of minor roads. The agency says this year's improvements will be concentrated in western counties, including Cass, Clay, Henry and Jackson.

Some of the work involves recycling old asphalt by heating it to 300 degrees and spreading it over cracks and ruts.

Transportation officials say the process reuses the road that is already in place.
