Arkansas officer says HIV-postive man spit on her

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - Little Rock police say a man who is HIV-positive spit blood at an officer who was trying to arrest him.

Police allege 41-year-old Carl Jackson Jr. stripped naked and tried to use a metal pole as a weapon against officers on Tuesday. He hasn't been formally charged.

Police responded around 5 p.m. after receiving a call from a postal worker who said Jackson was throwing rocks at his truck. Officers say Jackson was initially responsive but then became agitated.

Officer Jennifer Zarlingo wrote in a report that Jackson spit blood in her face and eyes. The report says she underwent tests, but the results are pending.

When others distracted Jackson, an officer handcuffed him.

Police say blood tests confirmed Jackson's HIV status.
