Jonesboro (ASU) – The Arkansas State track & field team advanced six student-athletes to the west regional of the NCAA Championships announced Tuesday. With the restructuring of the NCAA Track & Field Championships the regional sites will serve as the qualifying rounds of the NCAA Championships with the top 12 finshers of the 48-athlete fields advancing to the NCAA Championships.
"I'm very proud of the 6 athletes that made the West Regional qualifing round of the NCAA Championship," said ASU head coach Lon Badeaux. "We look forward to the challenge of trying to make the top 12 to move on to the Finals in Eugene, OR"
The west regional will be held in Austin, Texas May 28-29.
ASU had two student-athletes receiving top-25 seedings with sophomore pole vaulter Stephanie Foreman representing ASU as a 19-seed and senior discus thrower Jesse Williams ranking 23rd.
Freshman Solomon Williams is the only other male qualifyer, ranking 30th in the 110 meter hurdles.
On the women's side, senior Catherine Frappier also qualifyed in the pole vualt ranking 42nd. Senior Caitlin Winey qualifyed n the 100 hurdles at no. 45 and freshman discus thrower Julia Agawu ranked 48th in the discus.
The start lists will be released on Thursday and ASU could still qualify for two more events depending on the declaration process.
Sophomore Corwin Pace is currently ranked 52nd and Winey could also qualify in the 400 hurdles, she is currently ranked 49th.
