Elliott and Wills in runoff for Democratic 2nd District

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - The Democratic nominee for the 2nd District congressional seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Rep. Vic Snyder won't be chosen until a June 8 runoff between state Sen. Joyce Elliott and Arkansas House Speaker Robbie Wills.

They were the top two vote getters in balloting Tuesday in the central Arkansas district's five-candidate Democratic primary. To win, a candidate must receive a majority of votes, and since no candidate received a majority, the runoff is required for the top two candidates.

With just over 80% of precincts counted, Elliott received 40% of the vote in Tuesday's primary, while Wills had 29%.

Others in the race were Assistant Attorney General John Adams, former Snyder chief of staff David Boling, and former Clinton School administrator Patrick Kennedy.
