Little Rock district files suit on charter schools

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - The Little Rock School District has asked a federal judge to enforce an agreement by the state that it would not hinder desegregation efforts in the three school districts in Pulaski County.

The motion filed Wednesday in federal court claims the state violated that agreement - which also provides those three districts with millions of dollars of extra school money each year - by allowing charter schools to operate in the county.

The district's motion argues that the state has permitted the charter schools without considering the effect they have on desegregation efforts in traditional public schools.
