Turbine part maker to hire up to 500 in Northeast Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - A German manufacturer has chosen Osceola as the site for a $10 million wind turbine parts plant that could employ up to 500 people.

The company, Beckmann Volmer, announced Thursday that it will be a supplier to the Nordex USA Inc., which is building a wind turbine factory in Jonesboro. Nordex is also a German company.

Beckmann Volmer says it will initially spend $10 million at its new facility and hire 300 people. Workers will earn an average wage of $18 per hour.

After initial construction, the company says it may spend $7.5 million to expand and hire 200 more people.

Arkansas has attracted several large factories for the wind power industry, including a turbine plant in Fort Smith and blade plants in Little Rock.
