2 college students elected to Ark. quorum courts

MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (AP) - Two college students have been elected to seats on Arkansas county quorum courts.

Nineteen-year-old Richard Caster won 75% of the vote to oust an incumbent for a seat on the Baxter County Quorum Court last Tuesday.

In Saline County, Caster's 20-year-old friend, Justin Meeks, also beat an incumbent, winning a seat by 167 votes. Meeks is studying political science at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

It's not known if Caster is the youngest Arkansan ever elected to office. Jane Wilkerson, the archival manager for the Arkansas History Commission, says trying to research the matter would be "a massive undertaking" and the Arkansas secretary of state's office doesn't categorize candidates by age.
